Since 2007, Earth Givers has been pioneering a model that uses carbon offsets as a way to support local community development. This model has helped thousands of low-income families reduce their utility bills, and has yielded over 18,000(and counting) newly planted indigenous trees on conservation lands in Gainesville, FL. Earth Givers is a non-profit that utilizes community involvement to spread a message of conservation through commitment and action. Businesses, Universities, conferences, and individuals are choosing to offset their environmental impact with Earth Givers, because every carbon offset that’s sold is reinvested in to more projects that move us towards a sustainable and resilient community.
Earth Givers Haiti Initiative
Since 2010 Earth Givers has been working with Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve to work with 100 plus women in the mountains of Haiti to support them in replanting their community hillsides. Our two organizations are working together to help the women plant their hillsides with trees for food and other perennials that will provide food, livelihood and fuel. Our New Project Fundraiser!
Earth Givers’ We Are Neutral initiative is raising funds for a new project to help low-income families in Puerto Rico! Learn how you can be part of the change and give a gift in honor of family or friends this holiday season by visiting our global giving project webpage!
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help 50 families save on their utility bills while reducing their environmental footprint. How do we plan on doing this?
We are raising money for a new project working in Puerto Rico with low-income families - Help 50 Low-Income Families in Puerto Rico Save Energy & the Environment! Most of these families are on fixed incomes and renting units that are dated and very low in energy efficiency, making the utility bills crazy expensive and often unaffordable. Federal housing was primarily built in the 1950′s and 60′s when buildings were not designed for energy efficiency. What can we do to help this holiday season?
Our initiative focuses on providing opportunities to reduce monthly utility bills free of charge to families and housing management. We work with housing management and families to set a day for energy retrofits. We train, educate, and lead 15-20 volunteers (per day) to perform energy retrofits along side our staff. Each home will receive new low-flow showerheads, kitchen and bathroom faucets along with compact florescent light bulbs in place of incandescent bulbs. Every homeowner is interviewed and educated on ways to change behaviors that will lower their utility bills, save energy, and ultimately decrease their environmental footprint. This is especially important for an island where freshwater sources are limited and energy production is based on imported, dirty coal. Puerto Rico’s power generation produces some of the highest levels of carbon emissions per kilowatt-hour in the U.S. and its territories.
